Missing My Dumb District

Hey Everyone!

This week has been quite the adventure. I learn more and more every day about being a missionary and I fall more in love with the work. Don’t know how that’s possible but here we are.

In case y’all aren’t caught up with the program, I’m flying to Oklahoma today! It will be quite the adventure. Which means I’ve said bye to my district, who have literally been my family for the past three weeks. I bawled like a baby. We’ve all become best friends, and have learned and grown together so much! I miss them so much already- as my companion is sleeping on the floor since we’re so exhausted haha.

The “dumb” started with an Elder, it was kind of an interesting day for all of us, but he lost his pen and kept saying how he couldn’t find his “dumb” pen that ended up being within arms reach of him… so now dumb is used in literally every sentence for all of us. Dumb family, dumb district, dumb cafeteria food (that’s been the deal for a while now tho). It’s our way of showing love, I guess. I’m all for it.

For our Tuesday Devotional we saw Elder Bednar! When we found out it was him, I was pretty excited, he’s one of my favorites! When he walked into the room, I undeniably felt God’s power. It’s amazing how a single person could radiate that much light, and that much love. If an apostle of the Lord carried that spirit with him so strongly, I can’t even imagine what it would be like to be in my Savior’s presence. No words would ever be able to describe.

Elder Bednar gave so many good words about what apostles do, and my respect for anyone doing the Lord’s work skyrocketed. One of my favorite quotes from the night was, “Twenty-five days of travel, you think it’s exotic…. it’s awful…”. Another was, “Some people are goofy enough to aspire this position, I hope they get it.” HE IS HILARIOUS!!!

He said many great things, but what stuck with me was my gratitude for Jesus Christ. Everything is and should be about Him. Because for Him, it’s all about us. He knows us each by name, knows our struggles, our trials, as well as our joy. He IS our joy. His gospel is perfect, specific, and REAL!

Some Highlights of the week:

-Got matching shirts with the sisters

-was told I would be really easy to kidnap so that was just awesome

-Taught 3 amazing lessons

-Made an epic Harry Potter skit with the sisters

-Realized that wearing my boots is not the best idea if I want to blend in

-Said bye to my district (boo)

-ate a pop tart with sister demmerly in the middle of the night since our check out is literally at 3:57 am. Literallly who planned that? I’d just like to know because clearly they don’t realize that the MTC doesn’t have caffiene and we’re sleep deprived as it is.

-saw mtc cat

- took the most hilarious pictures with my district

-laughed until I cried to the point where my breathing sounded like a whale... multiple times.

-met a sister from my now home ward in italy!! She met my parents a couple days before she left for the mtc. Gave me a big hug from my mom haha

This week, I made it a goal to get to know God a little better. I know that He loves me, and that He knows me by name. He knows all of us so perfectly, even better than we know ourselves.

For this week, find some ways to get to know your Father in Heaven a little better. Mosiah 4 is a great place to start. Count your blessings, say more meaningful prayers, and I promise that you will feel of His love, and know of His character. I would love to hear any thoughts/questions that you have! I love hearing other’s insights on what they learn.

The next time y’all hear from me, I’ll be in OKC!! I’m so pumped. Life is so beautiful, so go live it up!

Remember, Jesus loves you all, and so do I!!

<3 Sister Jenni
