NORMA JEAN IS BAPTIZED!!
Hey y’all!
This has been quite. the. week.
Highlights:
-got to see Sister Demmerly at mission tour!
-Got to spend some time with Ann at Bingo
-Had a ward Christmas party, all of the primary girls decorated cookies and gave them to me. And they waited for me to eat them…. it’s so good to see that they look up to me, and want me to get obese.
-had a Christmas devotional with the whole mission
-Sister Okie drew me the best picture ever of me and Morgan Wallen, and Sister Sody told a story based on the picture. Funniest comp bonding ever:)
-Held the CUTEST puppy ever named Lola.
So on Friday, we were in the middle of teaching Toni. The lesson was pretty good, when all of a sudden the biggest BOOM happened. Like the blinds and doors were shaking in the house. And there was the brightest light that flashed. (Now I’ve been in Missouri during huge thunderstorms, I thought I’ve seen and heard it all.) I thought that WW3 was starting. No joke. Sister Okie literally sunk into the couch (like that would protect her) and I just sat there scared out of my mind (Like that would protect me). Sister Sody has literally been in a bombing and it even shocked her how loud it was. Toni’s son takes a minute and goes, “Oh, that happens all of the time.” And he starts talking about sonic booms and power surges. But hey, all is good in da hood.
NORMA IS BAPTIZED!!!!
A little about Norma Jean. She’s in her mid-70s, and can quote the bible like none other. We don’t teach her, she teaches us. She was on date for September 3rd, but the day before she had a stroke. She now lives in a care center where she will most likely be for the rest of her life. Yet she STILL wanted to get baptized.
Anywho, Saturday was absolutely chaotic. We woke up to a call saying that her ride bailed on her. Any other person, this wouldn’t be too big of a deal, but the problem is she’s wheelchair bound, and we need someone who 1) she is comfortable with, 2) is strong enough to carry her, 3) has a car that can take her and her wheelchair.
We got to the church to pick up her jumper, and there wasn’t the right size. We were about to have a meltdown. 6 phone calls, lot’s of deep breathing, and a good amount of begging God for a miracle, our other appointments for the day cancelled. We were about to rage but then realized that it was exactly what we needed lol.
We went home and decided to take a break for lunch because everything had cancelled and the baptism was in three hours. We deserved a break, right?
Wrong.
Fifteen minutes into our break we get a call saying that Norma is having a panic attack. So of course we SPEED over. Sister Sody low key might get her driving privleges taken away but it’s whatever. We walk in and Norma’s crying. We all give her hugs, and just talk to her. We were telling her that Satan is working so hard to not let her get baptized.
I kid you not, this woman straightens up in her wheelchair and goes, “Well he is NOT winning today.”
We said a prayer for comfort and peace, and she told us her favorite scriptures, and we read them to her.
Eventually we got to the church, and it was the most amazing experience. I know that God was looking out for everyone there, and that His hand is in our lives, even when it’s hard to see it.
Spiritual Thought:
During Norma’s panic attack, I felt prompted to turn to one of my favorite scriptures, John 14:27.
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
I told Norma that Christ was the only person who will give peace. She was doing what Christ wanted her to do, so there was no need to be afraid because she was in His hands. That was exactly what she needed to hear.
That verse was later read at her baptism by a different person. The spirit was so strong at her service.
This week, I want y’all to find ways that The Prince of Peace finds ways into your life. It could be through the scriptures, music, or people that He has sent into your life. I'd love to hear y'alls thoughts.
Everyone have the best week! Remember that God loves you, and so do I!!
God Bless,
Sister Jenni<3
