Okie Talkers

Image
Hey y’all!     Anyone familiar with the term “Okie Talker”? Well I am now, Oklahomans talk and talk and talk.  I hope y’all had a great Thanksgiving! I sure did! We ate at one of the Bishop’s houses, and quickly left for a lesson (the mission President gave us 2 hours for Thanksgiving dinner, we took like 20 minutes, we are so freaking busy here haha) We taught a lady named Alma! She is just the sweetest thing, and in the middle of the lesson, Sister Soderborg mouthed to me “December 24th.” and nodded her head. When I say that I literally heard my heart pounding, I mean it haha. I knew exactly what I needed to do, so I asked her if she would be baptized. She said yes!! We both cried, and it was so happy. We may move her date to January 7th (whooo my birthday!!) because we want members to be there to support. That was only our first lesson with her, so I wasn’t expecting to extend a baptism invitation, but hey the Lord knew she was ready:) We now have 3 of our friends on d...

Jokes On You I Have TWO Moms...

Hey y’all!  This week was my first week in Oklahoma! I love it here! On Tuesday morning at 3:30 Sister Demmerly and I left the MTC! Some elders in our district who were leaving a little after us came to say goodbye and help with our luggage. So kind of them haha.  We had to haul our suitcases onto a bus, then a train, then another train, then a bus to the airport. What a TRIP! When we got to the airport, we were weighing our stuff. We weighed it the night before and both were a little less than 50. One of mine was 50, but the other was a whopping 53.4. My heart sank because that meant I would have to pay way more money. As the worker was about to tell me that it would cost about an extra $200, we both watched the numbers slowly go down until it was exactly 50 pounds. My jaw literally dropped, and so did the workers. He said to have a good day, and I immediately gave thanks to my Heavenly Father because that was so cool and the biggest miracle.  The rest of the time in the...

Missing My Dumb District

Image
Hey Everyone! This week has been quite the adventure. I learn more and more every day about being a missionary and I fall more in love with the work. Don’t know how that’s possible but here we are.  In case y’all aren’t caught up with the program, I’m flying to Oklahoma today! It will be quite the adventure. Which means I’ve said bye to my district, who have literally been my family for the past three weeks. I bawled like a baby. We’ve all become best friends, and have learned and grown together so much! I miss them so much already- as my companion is sleeping on the floor since we’re so exhausted haha.  The “dumb” started with an Elder, it was kind of an interesting day for all of us, but he lost his pen and kept saying how he couldn’t find his “dumb” pen that ended up being within arms reach of him… so now dumb is used in literally every sentence for all of us. Dumb family, dumb district, dumb cafeteria food (that’s been the deal for a while now tho). It’s our way of showing...

Unpopular Opinion: Shrek Should Be Canadian

Image
Hey Everyone!! Wow, what a YEAR this week has been! I’m in the Provo MTC now, and lemme tell ya, this much fun should be illegal or something. By the end of my stay I will fosho have a six pack from laughing so hard.  BUT FOR REAL GUYS!! Shrek should be Canadian… just imagine, “Donkey, eh?” I’m ready to debate this with y’all. A girl in my district is from Alberta, Canada and she gets absolutely roasted every day. We’ve all started to talk in a Canadian accent and it’s just the best thing ever. I’ve learned the Canadian national Anthem, but no worries, Murica has my heart always.  Also, who said the MTC cafeteria food was good? If I wasn’t Christlike I would sue….Maybe it’s just the fact that I have a stellar cook for a mother, but hey it’s okay at least the Chocolate Milk is pretty good.  All jokes aside, it’s been a crazy week. About half of my district is sick, and some have been in and out of isolation. So pray for District 8-P cuz we are struggling.  All jokes a...

Facebook Worldwide Unified Page

Posted on the Facebook Worldwide Unified page by Portia Wilcox Louder:  I shared my story at the MTC (Missionary Training Center) last night.  “I was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was eight years old, and became inactive in the church when I was thirteen. I spent several years making one bad decision after another, and was a single mother with two children by the time I was twenty two years old. I remember thinking if I could just find the right man everything would be okay. I needed to find myself! When I found out I was pregnant with my third child I was scared. The father was uninterested in marriage and I knew my kids deserved more than I could give them. I got on my knees and prayed for the first time since I was a little girl and felt warmth come over me. I knew the child wasn't mine to keep.  When I was looking for David’s family, I met with three lawyers, looked through hundreds of adoption files, and met several famil...

Next Stop: PROVO MTC

Hey y’all! What a week! Hope you all had a happy Halloween! I love being a missionary.  My district and I joke that it’s giving us a sliver of what being a new parent is like.  You go to bed tired, you wake up tired, all day you’re tired. But it’s okay, because you love it!!  -My family made it to Italy! They love it! Must be quite the adventure having no car, no house, and having a loaf of bread cost nearly $10…  -I have spent over 50 hours on the computer between classes, lessons, and zoom meetings with my district and my companion.  -I taught my first lesson! It’s starting to feel so real and I’m loving every minute of it.  -Had the ward trunk or treat… I love halloween so of course I had to dress up… -Had chicken and rice for dinner! I’m telling you, any type of chicken is a food that makes me proud to be an American.  -Probably drank half of my body weight of lemonade and chocolate milk… don’t worry mom. Nama and Bampa are taking good care of me! ...
